Princess Diaries

Best Blogger Tips
Last Thursday we celebrated my girlfriend Rachell's 27th birthday. Since Rach is a very stylish person, we wanted to party with every bit of elegance.  We chose a "Princess" theme because we always tease her, addressing her as royalty, "Pwimpwess Rachell Ann Curtis-Smith"  all the time.  We all agreed to sport a headdresses. We made sure Rach will have a tiara on to achieve that Princess look.

We made reservations at The Noodle House in Madinat Jumeirah a week earlier.  Good thing they secured us a table at a semi-private corner.  As we know this restaurant is almost always jam-packed specially on weekends so it was convenient to be partly secluded.   The Noodle House doesn't normally accept reservations after 7 pm so if you'd really like to book a table, they will schedule you at 7 pm the latest.

The cake was arranged by Tine.  Considering the theme, we decided a tiara as the cake's highlight.  The base is a carrot cake with pink cream cheese icing.  This sumptuous home-made cake was created by Ms. Theresa del Prado.  For those peeps in DXB, you may check out her site www.mycuppcakestheresa.webs.com.  The tiara was custom-made by The Great American Cookies.  It's a brownie topped with sweet frostings.

The table should have a touch of the "royalty" motif so Patricia and I positioned place cards, pencils with hats and personalized napkin rings for each plate. Everyone was in the mood to party.  It was one fabulous dinner with great friends. The food was heavenly, all of us were fighting over the roasted duck, hahahahha.

Photos from that night - I can't help but notice my friends' outfits, I love the display of colors.  This is indeed one unforgettable night.

A night I've always longed for, Bob Marley in Dubai.

Best Blogger Tips
My friend Joan Cruz sent me an e-mail yesterday afternoon, since I was out of station I got the chance to check what she sent me in the evening. She BBM-ed me what it was about and I was so thrilled. Thank you so much Jo for being the bearer of good tidings.

For almost 3 years here in Dubai, I have always longed for a reggae gig.  When I first came here I was really disappointed upon learning that bars doesn't usually showcase reggae bands. It got me thinking that maybe there's isn't a market or an audience for this genre.  So when I heard of the news, I felt liberated.

It should be and amazing night, a chance for us to enjoy the relaxing rhythms as four bands play a mix of Bob Marley classics and other reggae hits.  So for those of you residing in the UAE who never got to see a reggae stint in the last couple of years, this is one awesome opportunity you shouldn't miss.

Venue: The Music Room, Majestic Hotel Tower
The bands performing are:

• BEHOLD THE LOCUS
• ALDO ROCK AND THE FOOTPRINTS
• BROWNFUSION
• ONE TIME

Special Guest: DJ WASSWA

Baby I was born this way.

Best Blogger Tips
I am Miejay, I'm a BLT. A Big Lipped Twat, yes that is what I am. Honestly I am not really proud of it and I was surprised when huge, pouty lips became and instant fad.  Some girls are using lip enhancing devices and cosmetics to get fuller and bigger lips.  Thanks to Angelina Jolie, others are resorting to surgery like lip fillers to achieve that plump and pouty look.  Even so, I still wasn't comfortable with what I have.  In photos, I have always have this default big grin so as to stretch my lips wider making it look thinner.

This is also one reason why I shy away from lipsticks.  It has become a personal conception that lipsticks make lips more heavy looking.  Until about a few months back that I got an expert advise from a beauty consultant from Make Up Forever.  She told me that for my lips I should apply muted colors such as purples, bronzes and browns to get the balanced look.  When nude lipsticks entered the scene, it was rejoice time for me.  Nude lipsticks help you pull of that muted lip effect.

Me and my friends were doing the usual mall rounds last weekend and I passed by MAC.  I saw this huge Viva Glam poster of Lady Gaga just outside the store.  I have this habit of smelling a thing first before trying it on or eating it. If I give this lipstick to my daughter she will probably nibble it immediately. It's mocha-cholatey smell is really tempting.  When I tried it on, I didn't look a bit like Lady Gaga but I was really pleased with what I saw.

I'm not really a big fan of the mother monster mainly because I'm not into her music, although I admire her bold and courageous fashion flair.  We have to admit, she has a sturdy influence on people because of her music.  That's why MAC Aids Fund, the heart and soul of MAC cosmetics with the help of Lady Gaga is spreading the word about the impact of HIV/AIDS to men, women and children.

Every cent (exclusive of local taxes where applicable) of sale from this MAC Viva Glam Gaga new shade of nude will automatically go towards helping this advocacy.

The Lipstick is a light warm beige with an amplified finish

The Lip Gloss is a mouth watering pale milky-beige

Here's a video of the MAC Viva Glam Gaga ad.

And now, on spotlight, let me present to you, my massive lips in MAC Viva Glam lipstick and lip gloss. (Woohoo! Massive!)

Just a tip: Nude lipsticks comes best when paired with heavy eye makeup specially with smokey eyes. Disappointingly, I don't have a hefty set of those since I really don't wear makeup.  I think I'll just stick with the lipstick I bought for now.

Sneak a Peek

Best Blogger Tips
So I got really excited over the movies we're planning to watch this week. All these hypes and raves in Facebook and Twitter got me all crazy thinking about Fast Five and Thor. As a result of this enormous fuss I got carried away and I started checking on other movies I must keep an eye on in the next couple of months. Believe me, most of these pictures are indeed worth the wait.

I've stumbled upon this site http://www.theshiznit.co.uk/ and saw these humorous yet somehow reliable posters.  It served as a review describing what happened to the prequels, a teaser for the sequels and an appetizer for the new flicks.

Check out the cajoling trailers that I find very appealing. Rate it yourselves, as for me I think I'm spending notes on most of them.
